Verbs with “à” and “y” in French

Here is the new recap of the French class which took place last Monday.

In this French class, we learnt 3 different verbs followed by the preposition “à”. To avoid repetition “à” can disappear and be replaced by “y”. Here is an example for you to understand :

“Je vais à Barcelone” (I am going to Barcelone) become “j’y vais” (I am going there). If you have already talked about Barcelone previously, you don’t need to mention it again, you can simply say “j’y vais”.

To practice, here is a little game led by Monsieur Moustachou where you have to guess what is he thinking about, where is he going and what is he playing.

This is the recap of our last French class which took place on the 9th of July :

We have been practicing the french expressions using the word “EN” as we studied it already in the 2 previous lessons (Tuesday 03/07 and Tuesday 26/06). In these slides, you will see these expressions into a real context.

Here, you can see 3 new ones that we haven’t seen yet:

  1. “J’en ai marre/J’en ai assez” means I had enough
  2. “Je n’en peux plus” means I can’t take anymore
  3. “Je m’en vais” means I am going, I am leaving

See you for the next class on the 16th of July.

A bientôt pour de nouvelles aventures.

Marie-Claire and Monsieur Moustachou.

Expressions with EN in French (Part 2)

This French e-lesson is a recap of the French class which took place on the 3rf of July in Headingley. In this French class, we learnt how to use the little word EN in French. This little word is actually to use with an expression with DE (previous lesson : expressions with DE) but this word DE disappear to avoid any repetition. For example :

  • J’ai besoin de lait => J’en ai besoin
  • J’ai envie d’une glace => J’en ai envie
  • Je me souviens très bien des dernières vacances => Je m’en souviens très bien.
  • Je m’occupe d’enfants => Je m’en occupe
  • Je rêve de faire le tour du monde => J’en rêve
  • Je me méfie des inconnus => Je m’en méfie
  • Je me rends compte de la chance que j’ai de pouvoir parler 3 langues => Je m’en rends compte
  • Je parle de mon secret => J’en parle
  • Je suis fier de mes enfants => J’en suis fier
  • Je me plains tout le temps de la pluie en Angleterre => Je m’en plains tout le temps

Have a look at all these examples that you would find in everyday situations and don’t hesitate to ask me if you have any question.
